Family, classmates mourn loss of BU student

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Friends and family of a 21-year-old Boston University student from Taiwan said goodbye at the Marsh Chapel on Saturday.

Chung-Wei Yang, who friends knew as "Victor," died on Monday night in Allston. He was riding his bike when he was hit by an MBTA bus.

Victor's parents flew halfway around the globe to be at the memorial service for their only child. The college freshman's uncle said the 21-year-old felt at home in Massachusetts and was interested in politics.

The family was comforted by the outpouring of support from the campus community. One family member said Victor was always popular, but he never thought the 21-year-old would get to know so many people in such a short period of time.

Victor's parents plan to return to Taiwan, but they hope their son's tragic death brings about awareness to the perils of commuting in urban areas.
