Falmouth baby bit by dog recovering from physical trauma

FALMOUTH, Mass. — A one-year-old girl who was bit in the face by the family dog is recovering from her wounds at the Boston Children's Hospital.

The girl was playing in the kitchen with her father nearby when the family's pit bull suddenly attacked her, biting her in the face and causing major trauma.

In a GoFundMe page, the girl's mother has provided some updates on the girl's recovery.

Since she sustained severe physical trauma to her face, the baby girl underwent three separate surgeries.

The first surgery was to stabilize her right after the attack and the second one was to explore her injuries and check for any signs of infection. The third and most extensive surgery was intended to reconstruct her jaw, reconstruct the facial structure on the left side of her face and under her eye as well as some work to begin replacing the bridge of her nose.

She is scheduled for another surgery on Tuesday to reconstruct the right side of her face and under her eye.

At the Falmouth Hospital, the first place she was taken to after the accident, she had to undergo a tracheostomy before she could be transported to the Boston Children's Hospital.

According to her mother, she will remain in the ICU for the time being, but is expected to recover after she goes through all the remaining procedures.
