BOSTON (AP)â A former state legislator who was expelled from the Massachusetts House of Representatives has been released from jail.
A spokesman for the Middlesex Sheriff's office says Carlos Henriquez, a Boston Democrat, left the House of Correction in Billerica on Wednesday.
Henriquez was convicted on Jan. 15 of assaulting a former girlfriend and sentenced to six months in jail.
He was granted early release by the state parole board but must meet several conditions. They include GPS monitoring, staying away from the victim and enrolling in a counseling program for batterers.
The House in February voted 146-5 to expel Henriquez, making him the first member to be removed from the chamber in nearly a century.
He has maintained his innocence and is appealing has conviction.
