Ex-Sen. Brown: Gomez "great candidate" for Senate

BOSTON (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is throwing his support behind fellow Republican and Senate hopeful Gabriel Gomez.

In an email sent Friday, Brown describes Gomez as a husband, father, and baseball coach with real world business and military experience.

He also called Gomez a great candidate who is running a strong campaign.

But Brown warned that Gomez's rival, Edward Markey, and the Democrats are running what he called an "ugly and negative campaign" to win the state's special U.S. Senate election.

Brown urges supporters of Gomez to donate to his campaign.

Brown opted not to run in the special election after he was defeated last year by Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The special election to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of John Kerry is June 25.
