Exclusive: Salem State junior savagely attacked outside Boston bar

(MyFoxBoston.com) – A 21-year-old junior at Salem State was attacked by six people outside a Boston bar early Saturday morning, police said.

Luiz DaCunha was at Hurricane O'Reilly's near the TD Garden celebrating with a friend who was being deployed overseas when he was allegedly viciously attacked after he friends say he tried to defend a female friend.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, DaCunha was outside the bar with a female friend waiting for his ride home when another man grabbed DaCunha's friend, Heloisa DaCunha, the victim's sister, told FOX 25's Bob Ward.

DaCunha allegedly pushed back, and that is when six people began kicking him as he fell to the ground. The assailants also allegedly smashed his head on the pavement.

When police arrived on scene, the attackers had already scattered.

DaCunha is in the hospital after suffering brain swelling, a cracked skull, and many other injuries. He spent two days inside Mass. General Hospital's ICU. He is in stable condition, but his family is concerned about brain damage.

Surveillance cameras at Hurricane O'Reilly's may give Boston Police Dept. detectives some solid leads.

The bar is just a block away from the TD Garden where DaCunha works as a line chef at the Legends Club. DaCunha is a graduate of Revere High School, as well as an avid soccer player and member of the Mass. United Football Club.

The victim's family and friends hope someone who was at Hurricane O'Reilly's will step up and tell police what happened.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Boston Police Dept. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-494-Tips.
