BOSTON — Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has joined a backlash against Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general.

The former governor joined the fight against Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions’ nomination with a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

He recommended they reject the nomination.

The pair has a history, according to the Boston Globe. In 1985, Senator Sessions brought voter fraud charges against Patrick and two other black civil rights leaders.

Patrick and the NAACP won the case.

He calls sessions "the wrong person to place in charge of our justice system."

Six members of the NAACP -- including the organization's president -- peacefully walked into a police van last night after the group spent hours sitting in Sessions’ office protesting the nomination.

They want Sessions to withdraw his name for consideration, saying the senator has been accused of making racist remarks in the past.

Police say those arrested are facing charges of criminal trespassing.
