Events to mark anniversary of 2003 nightclub fire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Survivors of a 2003 nightclub fire and friends and family members of the 100 people died will be holding events this weekend to mark the 10th anniversary of the blaze on Wednesday.

On Friday, an exhibit opens featuring photographs of dozens of people with tattoos they got to memorialize the fire and its victims. The project, Station Ink, was put together by a woman whose brother and sister-in-law were killed.

It is free, although donations are being collected for a permanent memorial at the fire site in West Warwick. It runs through Sunday at the Pawtucket Armory.

A public memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the site of the fire. Among those expected to attend are Gov. Lincoln Chafee and former Gov. Don Carcieri.
