Entries closed for Boston Half Marathon

BOSTON (AP) - Registration has closed for the Boston Half Marathon now that the limit of 7,500 runners has been reached.

It took about 12 minutes from the time registration started on Wednesday until the maximum amount of competitors had signed up for the 13th annual race on Oct. 13.

The event is the last in the Boston Athletic Association's three-race Distance Medley and the second since the Boston Marathon explosions on April 15. A five-kilometer race was held on April 14 and a 10-kilometer race on June 23. Each male and female runner with the lowest combined time receives $100,000. Each race also has its own prize money.

Allan Kiprono of Kenya and Kim Smith, a New Zealand native living in Providence, R.I., won both the Half Marathon and the three-race series last year.
