Election scheduled to fill Boston Senate seat

BOSTON (AP) — Voters in a Boston district will be heading to the polls to choose a state senator.

Democrat Linda Dorcena Forry faces Republican Joseph Ureneck in Tuesday's election to fill the first Suffolk seat previously held by Jack Hart, who left the Senate earlier this year to join a law firm.

Forry, a Dorchester resident, outpolled state Rep. Nick Collins of South Boston by fewer than 400 votes in the April 30 Democratic primary.

If elected on Tuesday Forry would be the first woman to represent the heavily Democratic district, which includes portions of the South Boston, Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods. She would also become the first Haitian-American to serve in the Massachusetts Senate.
