BOSTON — At least five buildings were damaged after a massive fire in Dorchester early Sunday morning.
The six alarm blaze scrambled firefighters around 4 a.m. to Marie Street, a building that has been empty while undergoing renovations.
The fire spread to adjacent buildings and some on the street behind.
At least 20 people were displaced in the fire, which caused almost $3 million, according to fire crews.
Joe Giansiracusa was able to get out and save his four cats, but he lost pretty much everything else. His building sits to the left of the vacant that caught fire in the middle of the night.
“I just heard crackling noise, like rain, and the fire came through the bedroom on the first floor," said Giansiracusa.
The cause is still under investigation. There were no reports of injuries.
