Drunken driver accused carrying loaded gun while fleeing crash

LAWRENCE, Mass. – A 67-year-old man is accused of crashing into two cars while driving drunk then taking off without stopping.

One of the victims confronted the man after his car was hit at Haffner’s Gas Station Saturday night. What he didn’t know at the time was that the suspect was allegedly carrying a loaded gun.

“He tried to get physical with my cousin and I, we backed off. We can tell he was old, and drunk. He wasn’t in the right state of mind,” Angel Geigel told Boston 25 News reporter Malini Basu. “I did yell back and told him to pull over and get out of the road. There was cars on both sides trying to get through, there were witnesses all over the place.”

As the suspect drove off, Geigel took a picture of the truck and contacted police. He also took to social media to warn others.

A short chase took place, and when police finally stopped the vehicle they say they found Angel Reyes behind the wheel with a loaded gun.

“It could’ve gone terribly wrong if he did get physical or anyone else got physical,” Geigel said.

Geigel said he was worried the driver would kill someone by the way he was driving, and after learning about the gun he’s glad it wasn’t worse.

“After everything, I felt bad sort of. He’s a 67-year-old. I was wondering what he was doing out, drunk driving with a loaded gun in his car,” he said.

Reyes is now facing five charges including OUI, not stopping for police and carrying a loaded gun without a license. He has been released on $7,500 cash bail.
