Driver revived with narcan after head-on crash in Blackstone

BLACKSTONE, Mass. — A driver had to be revived with narcan after a wild ride ended in a head-on collision in Blackstone.

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. on Main Street in Blackstone, but the incident began in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Police say that's where a 59-year-old man crashed into a snow route sign and an electric traffic control sign.

After crashing into the signs, the man allegedly drove to Blackstone, Massachusetts and crashed into several cars before crashing into someone head-on.

The Blackstone fire chief tells Boston 25 News they initially called a Life Flight helicopter for the driver of the smashed van, but they canceled after successfully revived him with narcan.

There is no word on the conditions of those involved.

Woonsocket Police say they believe the man was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police are charging the man with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident of a highway fixture.

Blackstone Police say William Halfelder has not been arrested yet, but will be charged when he gets out of the hospital. He will be charged with OUI drugs, OUI liquor 4th offense, negligent operation, right lane violation, failure to stop and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

The incident is under investigation.
