Driver of stolen car charged with DUI after pursuit in New Hampshire

A New Hampshire man was arrested after allegedly driving a stolen car under the influence of drugs, police say.

Police responded to a report of a hazardous driver in the Canterbury area around 9 p.m. on Friday.

Witnesses told police the driver was all over the road, almost hitting signs and other cars.

Shortly after police got a description of the car, they were told the car was possibly stolen.

After the information was confirmed, officers found the suspect and tried to stop his car after putting on their emergency lights and sirens, but the driver didn't stop.

During a pursuit, the driver continued to speed erratically and drive all over the road, leading officers to believe he was impaired.

Eventually, the car stopped, and 26-year-old Belmont native Joseph Costello was arrested.

Costello was charged with receiving stolen property, disobeying a police officers, reckless conduct, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of narcotics, resisting arrest and operating without a valid license.

Costello was transported to the hospital as a safety precaution before being taken to the Merrimack County Jail, where he refused bail.
