Driver goes on damaging rampage after fleeing from Worcester police

WORCESTER, Mass. – A driver on the run from police is accused of going on a rampage while driving and crashing into cars and other property.

Police had tried to stop 31-year-old Christopher Mason, but after several failed attempts to corner him in he was able to get away.

“He was coming down the hill and he was driving down the sidewalk then he slanted over hit a couple of parked cars, came back and flew on to Shrewsbury Street without stopping,” Patrick Sargent of thisweekinworcester.com said.

Police eventually surrounded Mason’s truck at the end of Wilson Street, but that wasn’t quite the end of it.

“I heard him just on the boards he couldn’t even find drive or reverse he was obviously intoxicated at the time,” witness Charlie Lemay said.

Officers then shot at the pick-up truck’s tires and engine block with what residents describe as less than lethal bullets.

“I didn’t know if he was armed. Like, everybody felt like we were in danger we were literally scared for our lives,” Stefanie Powers, a neighbor whose minivan was destroyed, said.

Eventually police busted the driver’s side window of the truck and tased Mason into submission.

“His irresponsibility led me to not even having a car, and I loved my car,” Powers said.
