Driver dies after exiting moving car in Auburn

AUBURN, Mass. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Massachusetts State Police are investigating a deadly accident along Route 290, where a Shrewsbury woman was hit and killed along the highway.

It happened at 5:08 p.m. Monday by Exit 10 on the Worcester-Auburn line. Police say for an unknown reason, a driver, identified as 51-year-old Catherine Berthiaume, was heading eastbound and got out of her 2012 Toyota Camry while it was moving and was hit by a tractor-trailer.
    
The highway was shut down for nearly three hours as emergency crews and authorities cleared the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
