Dorchester teen held on $50K bail in 9-year-old brother's shooting death

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 14-year-old Dorchester boy was held on $50,000 bail Monday in the shooting death of his 9-year-old brother.

Juanly Pena pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Pena was indicted on April 18 as a youthful offender. He faces charges of manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The teen is accused of fatally shooting 9-year-old Janmarcos Pena inside their home on Feb. 7. A family member told FOX 25 the 9-year-old victim was home sick from school that day. Why the 14-year-old was home remains unclear.

Police have not revealed how the teen got the gun and say they don't believe anyone at the home knew he had one until it was too late.

Due to the youthful offender indictment, Pena could face the same penalties as an adult if convicted.
