A group of college athletes flew to Ireland on Thursday after their dream trip was nearly ruined.
Football players from the New England Ironmen in Melrose almost had their trip ruined when their travel company, Offside Productions, filed for bankruptcy.
Players from Endicott, UMass Dartmouth, and Curry had paid a total of $50,000 for the trip.
When people learned about the group's financial struggle, they began donating to an account at a local bank. Aer Lingus also donated plane tickets with a value of $35,000 to the team.
All of the donations were enough for the group to take their trip as scheduled. They will play an exhibition team against a university in Ireland.
