A dog was shocked and suffered minor injuries while drinking from an electrified puddle on Castle Island in South Boston Friday afternoon.
The Department of Conservation & Recreation believes the puddle was electrified by a stray volt from a light pole likely damaged by a rodent chewing on wires.
Eversource came and immediately cut power to the area as a precaution. Boston Fire and Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene. A trooper set up barriers around the area to keep people away.
A state police spokesperson said the dog was brought to a veterinarian.
The light pole has since been repaired.
Eversource is helping DCR by deploying its Stray Voltage Truck, which will scan all fixtures on the island Friday night.
DCR will also physically inspect all light poles within Castle Island.
Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn posted on Twitter the dog owner was a friend of his.
Heard reports of dog electrocuted @ Castle Island, arrived and spoke with owner, a friend of mine. I have had discussions with owners previously affected, officials from Public Works & utilities.
