Dog kills miniature horse on Martha's Vineyard

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — Animal control officers say an Old English bulldog killed one miniature horse and mauled another over the weekend on Martha's Vineyard.

Edgartown animal control officer Barbara Prada says the dog apparently jumped a 4-foot fence and attacked the horses on Saturday afternoon.

Prada says the 3-year-old, 50-pound dog "ripped the jugular out and ripped half the face off" one horse and left facial injuries on the other.

The dog named Mugsy has been quarantined for 10 days.

Prada says the owner of the horses can file a written complaint, after which selectmen would decide the dog's fate.

Dog owner Andrew Mahoney tells the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/10Sh7An ) he wants to "do what's right."
