Dog found dumped on Rt. 9, 'criminally' neglected

WARE, Mass. — After a blind and deaf older dog was found along Rt. 9 in Ware, police are seeking the public's help in finding who dumped the animal.

In early May, a passerby spotted an 11-year-old Eleanor, a Lhasa Apso mix, wandering near mile marker 66 on Route 9.

The Animal Rescue League said Eleanor was severely neglected. Along with the hearing loss, she suffered a chronic "dry eye" condition which may have worsened her vision lost. She also has a skin disease that caused fur loss and extreme discomfort, dental disease, matted fur, overgrown nails, and two masses on her head.

Since being taken to ARL, Eleanor has had an eye removed and two masses removed, both of which were benign. Eleanor is under several treatments to improve her health and life.

While going through quite an ordeal and a difficult life, Eleanor is on the road to recovery and ARL is confident she will get a chance to find a new home.

Because of the criminal level of neglect and abandonment, ARL and Ware Police are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
