(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – An attorney for former House Speaker Sal DiMasi says the $65,000 that DiMasi was convicted of receiving in return for steering state contracts was not a bribe, but rather "legitimate income" from practicing law.
The claim is found in papers filed with a federal appeals court.
DiMasi is seeking a new trial. The 67-year-old is now serving an eight-year prison term for extortion, fraud and conspiracy. He also has Stage 4 throat cancer.
