Despite death reports, Pete Frates 'resting comfortably in hospital'

BOSTON — Despite reports of his death, Pete Frates' family says 'he is resting comfortably in the hospital.'

Frates' parents confirmed to Boston 25 News Monday morning, their son was still alive, though struggling and battling against an infection.

One local journalist tweeted that Pete Frates had passed away Monday morning, but later deleted the post.

They told Boston 25 they expect he will go home once the infection has cleared up.

Since then many people have shared their support for Frates and his family, including Gov. Charlie Baker.

On Facebook Sunday night, Nancy Frates wrote on the Team Frate Train page, “Please keep our family and especially Pete in your prayers. Pete is back at MGH and battling this beast like a superhero. We feel your love and support and are so grateful. Prayers and love – the most powerful of medicines! Thank you.”

Donations from the Ice Bucket Challenge Frates started helped fund research that discovered a gene linked to the disease.

Frates was first diagnosed with ALS in 2012.
