Dem Rep. Keating re-elected in new Mass. district

BOSTON (AP) - Democratic Massachusetts Congressman William Keating has beaten Republican businessman Christopher Sheldon to win a second term. He'll represent the new 9th Congressional District.

The district includes Cape Cod and much of southeastern Massachusetts. When state lawmakers drew the lines of the state's new congressional map, they crafted a 9th District with no incumbent living in it.

Keating lived in Quincy and represents the state's 10th District. He moved to Cape Cod so he could run.

He brushed back a September primary challenge from Bristol District Attorney Sam Sutter.

Sheldon is from Plymouth. The primary he won was so close it took several days to declare him the winner.

Keating says he's focused on jobs, from 79 new firefighter jobs in Fall River to the promise of biotech and underwater robotics.
