Death of cyclist in Amherst under investigation

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — The 22-year-old cyclist who died after being struck by a truck in Amherst over the holiday weekend has been identified as a Hampshire College student originally from Newton.

College officials identified the victim as Livingston "Liv" Pangburn, who was struck at about 4 p.m. Sunday near Amherst College. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The driver of the struck stayed at the scene. The death remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Hampshire College spokeswoman Elaine Thomas says Pangburn's death has left the campus "deeply saddened." A memorial is being planned for the fall.

Pangburn, who lived in Granby, was studying sculpture and scheduled to graduate next year.

The district attorney's office identified Pangburn by his birth name, Olivia.
