DCF investigating claims Andover hockey coaches withheld water, food

ANDOVER, Mass. -- The Department of Children and Families is investigating claims that members of the Andover High School boys hockey coaching staff withheld food and water from players.

The investigation was first acknowledged Wednesday, and on Thursday the specific details of the investigation were released.

According to a spokesperson for Andover High School, DCF is investigating two reported incidents. In one instance, players were forced to practice without water after losing a game. The other part of the investigation regards allegations that players were denied food on the trip back from an away game they lost.

Head coach Chris Kuchar and two members of his staff are on leave, but team manager Pete Stylos told Boston 25 News he doesn't believe the allegations are true.

"I've been at these practices. There is water available to all players and no abuse or foul play," he said. "Coach Kuchar stresses to work hard but he never pushes his players over the limits to where they can't perform."

Andover Public Schools are cooperating with the investigation and according to a spokesperson will conduct its own investigation.

Kuchar did not respond to request for comments from Boston 25 News.
