Dana Farber at emergency levels for O negative blood

BOSTON — Dana Farber's O negative blood supply has reached an emergency level and the cancer institute is putting out a call for donations.

Any blood donated helps patients at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and at Brigham and Women's Hospital. On Tuesday, Dana Farber said it was below their one-day inventory supply.

For those interested in donating, check you are eligible and then go to the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, which is at 35 Binney St. in Boston.

In general, to donate blood, one must be at least 17 years old, 110 pounds or heavier and in good health. For more information about availability, visit Dana Farber's website.
