AMHERST (AP)- Authorities say a University of Massachusetts student from Stoughton has been identified as the victim of an apartment fire in Amherst.
The Northwestern District Attorney's office said Tuesday the state medical examiner has positively identified the victim as 21-year-old James E. Hoffman.
State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan has said the fire the Rolling Green complex was reported at about 4:45 a.m. Monday and appears to have started in the unit where Hoffman's body was found. The cause is still being investigated.
Officials said the apartment housed about 32 people, including 22 UMass students.
