DA releases sketch of suspect in 1992 murder of teacher

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Massachusetts prosecutors have released new information about the suspect in the slaying of a middle school teacher's aide nearly a quarter of a century ago.

BACKGROUND

Lisa Ziegert was killed in April 1992. The 24-year-old Agawam woman was working her night job at a card and gift shop when she disappeared.

She was reported missing by another employee who arrived at work in the morning to find the store open, the lights on, and Ziegert's car still outside. The money in the cash register and the victim's purse appeared undisturbed.

Ziegert's body was found four days later in a wooded area about four miles away. She had been raped and stabbed.

'SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT'

In what prosecutors called a "significant development" in the case, investigators were able to create a composite sketch of the suspect using a DNA sample. The sample was created based on DNA found on the victim and DNA found at the scene.

The composite sketch includes what the suspect would look like at age 25 and age 50.  The DNA sample has been run through every national database without finding a match.
