DA seeking to indict man who allegedly lied to cops in murder case

WEST BROOKFIELD, Mass. — A family is still searching for answers after a mother and her three children were found murdered in their West Brookfield home earlier this year.

Today, a man accused of lying to police about the investigation into the murders appeared in court.

While Matthew Locke is not being charged with the murders, he is the only person arrested in connection to the case - and is related to the victims.

Despite everything that has happened, the family says Locke has their support.

Locke is a first cousin to Moses Bermudez, the husband of Sarah Bermudez, one of the victims, and father of the three children also found dead inside the home.

At Locke's hearing on Tuesday, the Worcester County District Attorney is looking to indict him in superior court for allegedly lying to police.

Boston 25 News Bob Ward spoke to Locke's uncle, who didn't want to show his face on camera. He was asked if he believed Locke is a suspect in the case.

"With police, yes, I do believe that they think he's a suspect, but I know he's a gentle soul and he wouldn't do something like this," said Locke's uncle. "He gets angry like anyone else, you see it in his face, he'll clench his fist, but he'll never swing at anyone - he always walks away - so why would anybody think that he would kill someone?"

Locke's uncle said the family has been very upset during the past couple of months with the lack of answers and resolution in the case.

He also said he's only seen Moses Bermudez, his nephew, twice since the murders happened, and that he's trying to be strong, but won't speak about the incident.

Locke, who has a criminal history that includes violent crimes, is due back in court next month.
