DA: No charges in crash death of Amherst cyclist

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Prosecutors say no charges will be filed against the driver of an Amherst College box truck involved in a collision that killed a bicyclist.

Twenty-two-year-old Livingston "Liv" Pangburn of Granby died in the May 26 crash. He was a Hampshire College student originally from Newton.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that Pangburn was eastbound in heavy traffic on College Street, and didn't stop when other traffic did to allow the westbound truck to make a left turn to the Amherst College campus. The district attorney's office said Pangburn continued riding and wasn't able to maneuver around the truck to avoid the crash.

The prosecutor's office said the truck driver couldn't have seen Pangburn in time to stop, and there was no evidence that impairment, cellphone use, or mechanical defects played a role.
