DA: Man died after falling down elevator shaft on Peddocks Island.

A man who died on Peddocks Island Friday night apparently fell down an elevator shaft.

According to the Plymouth County District Attorney's office, William Bryan III, of Whitman, was touring the island with several others following a meal at the visitor's center.

Bryan reportedly jumped from the third floor of a building onto an elevator platform. When he tried to jump back he fell down the elevator shaft and suffered head injuries.

Crews from Engine 8, Ladder 1 and the District 3 Chief were joined by the Boston Police Harbormaster, Boston EMS, Coast Guard and Hull fire crews responding to the island Friday evening just after 9:30 p.m.

The DA's office said Bryan and the group he was with had been drinking alcohol before the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
