DA: Ashland police officer justified in shooting

WOBURN, Mass. (AP) - An investigation by the Middlesex district attorney's office has determined that an Ashland police officer was justified when he shot and killed a man in July.

The investigation determined that Officer Christopher Alberini fired on 27-year-old Andrew Stigliano after Stigliano refused to drop a loaded shotgun he was wielding in the attic of a home where he was hiding.

The cause of death was two gunshot wounds to the torso.

Authorities say Stigliano also exchanged a series of text messages with a lawyer and two friends in which he threatened to harm and kill officers surrounding the home and said he was not leaving the home alive.

Ashland Police Chief Craig Davis, who was not with the department at the time, says he will review department policies and procedures.
