UXBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The Worcester County district attorney's office says the driver of a stolen SUV involved in a fatal head-on collision was 17.
Police identified the driver in Friday's crash as Alexander Ives, of Providence, R.I.
Ives was driving the stolen Ford Explorer on Route 122 in Northbridge Friday afternoon when officers attempted to stop him. Police chased Ives into Uxbridge before he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a silver pickup truck going the other way.
Video from SkyFox showed crews performing chest compressions on Ives as he was taken to an ambulance. He was flown by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he was pronounced dead.
Rescue crews had to remove the top of the pickup truck to access the driver, identified as 30-year-old Anthony Southwick, of Uxbridge. Southwick sustained serious injuries.
Police said they had backed off the chase before the crash. They said the SUV was reported stolen out of Rhode island.
