Haverhill woman accused of threatening police with Taser before arrest

SALEM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A 28-year-old Haverhill woman was arrested on Wednesday morning after police received a report about a combative female shoplifter at a Walmart in Salem.

Police say they arrived to the Walmart at about 1:30 a.m. to find Sara Rivera standing in the parking lot incessantly blowing an air horn with her arms outstretched. After refusing to cooperate, police tried to take Rivera into custody. The arresting officers claim Rivera threatened to use a stun gun them and swallowed a handful of pills.

Investigators later found a stun gun tucked into the 28-year-old's waistband. They also concluded that she took between 10 and 15 Xanax. She was taken to a local hospital before she was taken to Rock County Jail to await arraignment.

Rivera is accused of stealing $1,000 in horror movies, perfumes, and a machete from the store. She has been charged with willful concealment.
