Crews search overnight for missing Gloucester fishermen

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Crews will continue to search overnight Tuesday in hopes of locating the two missing Gloucester fishermen whose 45-foot fishing boat vanished north of Provincetown over the weekend.

Authorities turned their search to Saugus Tuesday night, after discovering the Foxy Lady II's lifeboat in the Rumney Marsh along the Saugus River; however, the men, a 25-year-old Capt. Wallace Gray, Jr. and 50-year-old crewman Wayne Young, were nowhere to be found.

Both the captain and crewman hail from Deer Isle, Maine.

Additionally, FOX 25 was told by Petty Officer Adam Stanton that fishing gear and equipment belonging to the Foxy Lady II had washed ashore on Nantasket Beach in Hull.

The captain's girlfriend told Coast Guard officials Monday morning that the boat had not returned as planned on Saturday night and that she last spoke to her boyfriend through text messages sometime between 6 a.m. and noon that day.

The Foxy Lady II, whose home port is in Gloucester, had departed Saturday morning.

On Monday, the Coast Guard picked up the vessel on a satellite ping approximately 10 miles north of Provincetown.

According to officials, there were no distress calls from the boat.

The Coast Guard Cutters Spencer, Flyingfish and Sanibel searched Monday night covering more than 360 square miles.

The Spencer and Sanibel will remain on scene Tuesday and the Coast Guard Cutter Bainbridge Island is relieving the Coast Guard Cutter Spencer.

A Coast Guard Air Station MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HU-25 Falcon jet remains in standby until weather subsides.
