‘Cowabunga-gate’ sending Internet into rage

Any child of the 80s can tell you three things: the movie Goonies is amazing, Teddy Ruxpin was a little creepy and Michaelangelo's catch phrase is "cowabunga."

But the relaunch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television show on the kid's network Nickelodeon has sought fit to replace the pizza-loving hero in a half shell's signature catch phrase with "booyakasha" prompting rage on the Internet.

Producers tell Entertainment Weekly the change came when the actor who plays Michelangelo on the new show blurted out "booyakasha" and "won everyone over in the room."

The Internet, apparently, didn't get the memo about being won over.

On Friday and Saturday alone, our Twitter feeds and Facebook walls were filled with our fellow 80s survivors dismay at the Nick decision.

Several articles have popped up since pleading with the producers of the show to bring "cowabunga" back. There's no indication the phrase will be changed, however.

Wicktionary says the phrase "booyakasha" was popularized in the mid-2000s by a Sacha Baron Cohen character, Ali G. It has since been adopted by Sterling Archer in the F/X cartoon comedy "Archer."
