Court docs: murder-suicide suspect accused wife of drug addiction

DEDHAM, Mass. — Before coming to a joint custody agreement, a father who apparently shot and killed his 6-year-old son before committing suicide accused his wife of being a long-time drug addict, according to court documents.

Police say William Scaccia, of Foxborough, shot and killed his son Thursday night before turning the gun on himself.

According to an affidavit, his ex-wife had feared he might become when she applied for a restraining order against him.

"William Scaccia also said to me, 'You don't know the depths I will go to keep my son' and 'You have not seen how evil I can be,'" the affidavit states.

But according to another court document obtained by Boston 25 News, Scaccia had accused Laurie Tolliver of being “a long-time amphetamine addict who refuses to get help.”

In a statement filed before the pair was given joint custody over their son, Scaccia said Tolliver would sleep for days at a time.

“She’s awake for 72 hours, then ‘crashes’ and sleeps for 72 hours,” Scaccia wrote. “While sleeping for days she is arousable (sic) to crying or verbal calling, but falls immediately back to sleep. She will not wake up to a boy choking, falling down stairs, coughing on drain cleaner or opening the door to the street.”

Scaccia wrote he had been forced to take care of the boy ‘24/7’ until Tolliver was granted a restraining order against him.

In a news conference Friday morning, Foxborough police said there had been a history of restraining orders, but there was no active order against Scaccia at the time of his death.

Foxborough police said they had encountered Scaccia in the past, under circumstances described as domestic incidents.

Police had recently denied Scaccia's pistol permit request and Scaccia was arrested on September 16 for a firearm violation.
