Couple has wedding on an airplane for bride's dying mother

SEATTLE — Passengers on a flight from Los Angeles to Seattle attended a wedding of complete strangers Friday.

And the wedding was 35,000 feet in the air.

Alaska Airlines flight attendant Kristy Larsen wanted to fulfill her mother's wish: To see her daughter get married.

People reported that Larsen's mother, Billie Jo Stratton, has stage four cancer.

In addition to wanting to see her daughter get married, Stratton always wanted to see where her daughter works.

"She wanted to come out and see where we were at because she knew I was happy out here in Seattle," Stratton told WTXF. "(She) wanted to come see Seattle and see our house here and just have a visual of what our life was like up here and that really it really touched me."

So Kristy and her now-husband, Jim Larsen, flew Stratton out to see their Seattle home and got married on the way there.

Today reported that Kristy Larsen got permission from her airline and worked out the details, designing her own accessories and asking her fellow Alaskan Airlines co-worker Christina Frees to photograph the special day.

Kristy Larsen met Jim Larsen on a red eye flight from Los Angeles to Seattle.

"I was thinking of unique wedding ideas while driving home from a red-eye about a month before the wedding and thought it'd be a cool idea to get married on that exact flight," Kristy Larsen said.

Passengers were given bubbles, chocolate roses and Sweethearts candies for the flight. When the nuptials were exchanged, the passengers clapped and blew bubbles as the couple walked down the aisle.

"I was really touched and overwhelmed by the amount of love and joy flooding through the cabin," Kristy Larsen said. "Not only did they make the day even more special for me, but for my mom as well."

Kristy Larsen had Stratton stay with her and her husband in Seattle for a few days and showed her the city.

The couple plan to have a honeymoon in Iceland.

"My mother is the world to me, anything to make my mom happy," Kristy Larsen said.
