Could Deval Patrick make a 2020 run?

Deval Patrick 2020?

According to Politico, President Barack Obama's inner circle is urging the former Massachusetts Democratic governor to run.

Since his departure from the State House in 2015, Patrick has joined the asset management firm Bain Capital.

Politico cites Obama and Deval's close relationship as an indicator he could throw his hat into the ring. Other Democratic Massachusetts lawmakers are all for it.

"He's one of the few leaders that I know in politics that has an ability to inspire, to get people behind a common message," said Congressmen Joe Kennedy III.

"I think that Deval Patrick is one of the most talented politicians that we have on the Democratic ledger," said Congresswoman Kathryn Clark.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's name has also been floated, which Clark gave a nod to.

"I am glad we have so many people from Massachusetts that are being mentioned as potential candidates," she said.

The Republican National Committee, however, said that the fact Patrick's name is even being mentioned "further highlights that they are a leaderless party from top to bottom."

"But the real question is: has anyone told liberal Elizabeth Warren yet that she’s not the Democrats’ top choice for 2020, even when narrowed down to potential candidates within her own state?" said RNC Spokesperson Ellie Hockenbury.

Boston 25 News reached out to Patrick's office for a comment, but his team said they would have no statement.
