COTUIT, Mass. — A man was arrested Tuesday for the murder of his wife.

Head down the entire time and flanked by defense attorneys, Christopher Fratantonio plead not guilty in court to stabbing his wife Mary early Tuesday morning.

Sources told FOX25 their two young children were inside at the time but unharmed.

“When they arrived, the defendant Chris Fratantonio met them outside the house. He made statements to the police leading officers to believe he had stabbed his wife,” Assistant Barnstable District Attorney Daniel Higgins said in court.

Barnstable police say they were called to their home on Trout Pond Road just before 2 a.m. Tuesday morning after receiving several 911 calls.

According to court paperwork, the 35-year-old mother was found stabbed multiple times in the bedroom.

Mary Fratantonio is known as Molly to her colleagues at Barnstable High School, where she was a Special Education teacher. Previously, she was an Early Childhood educator in New Bedford.

Barnstable's superintendent says they activated a crisis team, saying, "we are deeply saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Molly's family, friends and loved ones."
