Con-QUACK-ulations! Beloved classroom ducks tie the knot

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Kindergartners at a Manchester, New Hampshire, elementary school were on hand Thursday as their beloved classroom ducks tied the knot.

Two ducklings, Plumpty and Pierre, were born two years ago in Marguerite Hopey’s classroom at Weston Elementary School. They went home to live with a friend of the school, but they visited her students several times over the years.

This year, the students decided the lovebirds needed to get married, so Hopey and the children went into planning mode and embraced learning opportunities at the same time.

During writing lessons, the children designed invitations, wrote wedding vows and created a reception menu.
Their math skills helped determine the timing of the wedding, figure out how much food was needed and to make seating arrangements.

The school’s music teacher helped student pick out music for the ceremony, and the art teacher helped them create decorations and wedding favors.
