Cold weather, snow to take control in Mass.

Cold weather takes control of New England over the next seven days, and we've got two storms on the horizon.

Monday morning will be partly cloudy and much colder than Sunday. We start off in the teens and only make our way to about 29 degrees in the afternoon.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the east coast of Massachusetts, including the Cape and the islands starting at mid-day. As the day progresses, we will see increased clouds and flurries that start after 6 p.m.

By 10 p.m., light snow becomes steady and will continue, heavy at times, through the early morning hours of Tuesday. Central and western Massachusetts will not likely see more than two inches of snow. The coastline will see two to four inches on average with some isolated areas potentially receiving greater amounts.

The models at this point vary for snow totals, but Boston should receive around four to six inches, the South Shore should receive two to four inches, and the Cape will get the greatest amounts along the North Shore, potentially seeing six to eight inches.

Stay tuned as these numbers will likely change by Monday night.

Looking ahead, we are locked in with unseasonably cold air through the next seven days. The coldest air of the week will arrive on Wednesday with highs only topping out in the upper teens and morning lows down in the single digits.

Another potential storm will arrive for Friday bringing snow to the Boston area once again. Bundle up and think warm thoughts.
