Chuck Turner wins lawsuit against City Council

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – FOX 25 has learned a former Boston city councilor now serving time in federal prison has won a big pay day.

The city has agreed to pay a $106,000 legal settlement with Chuck Turner. The former councilor sued after being removed from his seat in December of 2010. That was eight weeks before he received a three-year prison sentence on federal bribery charges.

According to state law, a public official automatically loses their post when they are sentenced for a felony conviction.

City Council President Stephen Murphy now plans to file a motion to change the law so that council members can be removed after being convicted of a crime.
