DANVERS, Mass. — Residents in Danvers have been using Chuck E. Cheese tokens to pay for overdue book fines this summer, according to the Peabody Institute Library in Danvers.
After a surge of people attempting to pay their library fines and printing fees with Chuck E. Cheese tokens, the library issued a reminder to people via Facebook that the tokens are not an acceptable form of currency.
The library says that since the tokens are not legal tender, they cannot accept them. The same rule goes for Canadian coins.
According to the library staff, one of their bookkeepers counted three tokens one day before they realized they weren't real currency.
