Christmas Day dusting to be followed by strong storm Wednesday

Christmas Day's light snow could be followed by several inches of snow on Wednesday night.

Light snow and rain impacted southern New England in a patchy fashion Christmas morning. Afternoon highs will range from the mid-30s in the Worcester area and southern NH to upper 30s in Boston and lower 40s on Cape Cod.

A coating to 2 inches is forecasted for much of Massachusetts north and west of Boston. I expect most towns to see the lower end of that range. Unfortunately for the kiddos that had Christmas wishes to sled and make snowmen, it's simply not in the cards! Tell them to hold tight as a stronger storm will move in late Wednesday.

Southeastern Massachusetts, the Cape and Islands will stick with mostly rain today. Occasional light rain may stretch into the mid-afternoon in this area. It will be the last to dry out.

Some late breaks in the clouds may develop Christmas afternoon, and then clearing will continue overnight. It will be chilly with overnight lows in the 20s! Partial sun will rule the early Wednesday weather. Highs tomorrow will peak in the upper 30s—seasonable!

A winter storm watch has been issued concerning the Wednesday night to Thursday night time frame.

Several inches of snow are possible through northern, central and western Mass., as well as southern NH. A high wind watch will impact southeastern Mass as gusts to 60 mph are possible. This strong storm will bring snow, rain, possibly freezing rain and wind to southern New England after dark on Wednesday.

Anyone planning to travel from late Wednesday through Thursday must consider local routes may become slippery and tricky to navigate.
