Child Welfare League to conduct DCF review

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Secretary of Health and Human Services John Polanowicz has asked the Child Welfare League of America to conduct an independent review of the Department of Children and Families.

In a press release Wednesday, HHS announced the full review would take place over the next several months. The goal of the review is to ensure that DCF has the proper policies in place to protect children and families, officials say.

"DCF is responsible for protecting the Commonwealth's most vulnerable children from abuse and neglect – and this is not a responsibility that we take lightly," Polanowicz said. "The Department has strong policies in place, and the CWLA's independent review will ensure those policies are the right ones and provide recommendations to further strengthen our child welfare practices."

HHS is working with CWLA on the review and is planning to contract an agency for the independent review.
