PLAISTOW, NH (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) The 3-year-old child at the center of an abuse case involving a fugitive couple from New Hampshire is being cared for by family.

Plaistow Police say James Nicholson has been released from the hospital and is being taken care of by relatives as he continues his recovery.

The boy's mother, 23-year-old Jessica Linscott, remains behind bars as she faces six misdemeanor charges of endangering a child. Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Roland Dow, was placed on high bail on first and second-degree felony child abuse charges.

The couple is accused of dropping James off at a New Hampshire hospital with a brain injury, massive bruising, a visual impairment, and burns before fleeing the state. They were picked up days later at Universal Studios in Florida.

The boy's family, speaking through Plaistow Police, says they are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support and toys that the 3-year-old has received during his recovery.

Plaistow Police are still collecting toys for James and they are also setting up a fund for financial donations. Police say they've received an outpouring of support.

Toy donations can be dropped off at the Plaistow Police Department. FOX 25 will post the information for giving financial donations as soon as the fund is created.
