Chelsea city councilor arrested after winning election

CHELSEA, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) Chelsea councilman Calvin Brown was arrested early Wednesday morning after winning re-election in the city's race on Tuesday.

Brown, a 49-year-old at-large city councilor, was arrested for assault and battery and was arraigned Thursday in Chelsea District Court. A judge released Brown on his own recognizance and ordered he not abuse the victim. The victim was his 47-year-old wife, according to the Boston Globe.

According to the Globe article, Brown told police he and his wife argued after he came home from celebrating his electoral victory. Both spouses told police they had been drinking, the Globe article stated.

According to his section on the Chelsea city website, Brown has lived in Chelsea for 25 years. He is a father and former Golden Glove Champion, the site says. Brown was first elected to an at-large council seat in 2010.
