Charlestown woman awoken by intruder indecently assaulting her

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. — Police are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a woman's home and indecently assaulted her while she slept.

Boston police say around 4 a.m. Tuesday, they were called to Old Ironsides Way for a reported breaking and entering. When police arrived, a woman said she was awoken by an intruder indecently assaulting her.

She screamed and woke up the other people in her house, and the suspect ran out the front door.

Neighbors are shocked to hear this as they say this is a fairly safe neighborhood.

"My daughter called me, she lives next door and asked me to get a lock because my granddaughter sleeps with her bedroom window open," said Sharon, a neighbor. "I feel really bad for her, like, it's traumatizing. She has a young son, it's gotta blow your mind, it blew mine."

Police say that once other neighbors learned of what was happening, the suspect got away.

The suspect is described as a black man, approximately 25 to 30 years old, 5'5" to 5'8" tall and was wearing gray sweatpants with a distinct dark gray back pocket.

Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is urged to call Boston Police at (617)343-4400.
