PEABODY, Mass. (AP) — A Peabody man police say was driving drunk when his car slammed into the back of a tow truck, killing his passenger, has had his bail lowered even though charges have been upgraded to include manslaughter.
Matthew Fowler pleaded not guilty Monday to charges including manslaughter and second-offense drunken driving
The 38-year-old Fowler is charged in connection with the May death of his friend Daniel Wright. Prosecutors say after his car veered into the rear of the flatbed tow truck, he walked from the scene. He was found about one-third of a mile away.
Prosecutors say Fowler's blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.
The Salem News (http://bit.ly/190TL2L ) reports that his lawyer got bail lowered from $50,000 to $5,000, arguing that Fowler was not a flight risk.
